ProvostsGuardRp Rules and Posting

Sun Sep 13, 2009, 9:12 AM
Yes, another one.

Welcome to the roleplay based off of the Beka Cooper series by Tamora Pierce! If you have not read the series, all will be explained. The Provost's Guard is a sort of police force in a fantasy/medieval setting. They patrol the streets during the Morning, Day, Evening, and Night watch on the look out for Rats, or criminals. More often than not they will ignore the Mice, small-time filchers and what have you, and only hobble the real trouble makers. They collect bribes if the crime is not too heinous and group them all in the Happy Bag, the money received then being plowed back into the well-being of the Guard and the city. Full-fledged guardsmen/women are known as Dogs, trainees as Puppies. The Guard has a relationship with the Rogue, which every city has. The Rogue is in charge of all the illegal goings-on but is also the one who keeps together stores of food, clothing and other supplies for the city folk.

A Dog's uniform consists of a black tunic, black breeches, and black boots. They carry a two foot lead-cored baton and leather straps for hobbling (arresting) Rats. Dogs do not carry swords or other long blades because a. they require years of training to be wielded effectively, b. they are expensive to purchase and maintain, and c. they are a weapon that is effective on a battlefield setting, not for street brawls with Rats. You don't need much training to be able to whack somebody with a baton properly, they're tough so they don't break and cheap to replace if they do, and they're compact. Individual Dogs will carry additional items on their person. Puppy uniform is the same as Dog but with white trim on their tunic.

They talk funny, as this is medieval times, something like this: [link]

Magic in this universe does exist. People are born with the Gift, which manifests in different ways for different people. Some can shape shift, some can produce light, and many can cast spells if taught how. Magical creatures, however, are more often than not not present.

Rules

-No godmoding. This means being stronger than anyone else, being immortal (as in unable to be killed, character who are immortal as in they will live on and on UNLESS they are killed are fine), being able to get the upper hand in any situation, killing other people's characters without permission, controlling other people's characters in any way, etc. You will be called out if you do this.

-No metagaming. This is using information you know but your character couldn't possibly know, i.e. the names of other characters if they haven't revealed their name, other character's pasts and abilities if they haven't been brought up, etc.

-Don't force romance on other rpers. This is not a room meant for romance rps, but if it just happens over time that's fine. Just don't come into the room expecting it.

-Don't idle.

-Use brackets when speaking OOC.

-Be courteous to all other rpers.

-No Mary Sues. A Mary Sue is a perfect character who is beautiful, described in perfect terms, is inaccurate for the time period/area, who defies the laws of society without any punishment, who has guys falling at her feet all the time, and is overall annoying and too perfect for their own good. They more than likely have an overly depressing past doubtlessly including dead/abusive parents, or parents that abandoned her (as it is probably a her). Either everyone loves her unconditionally or, on the other extreme, they are hated for reasons she cannot control by everyone. They have insanely unique powers that are stronger than anyone elses, that are vaguely described, and are constantly changing. Wikipedia does a good job of explaining it, so read [link] Sues are the most hated of all creatures, even more so than clowns. You are required to take this quiz to see if your character is of the Sue variety: [link] If your character does not pass, modify it so that it does.

-This roleplay takes place in a medieval setting in the kingdom of Tortall, which is similar to Europe. The specific area they are in is similar to England. Please make sure your character fits in.

Name: Clarice Danu Yippawitt
Gender: F
Age: 21
Race: Irish Equivalent
Height: 6'
Hair: Red, wavy, grows to mid-back, is kept in a bun
Eyes: Leaf green, slender, with long black lashes
Face: Triangular, fine nose, full lips, freckles
Body: Curvaceous, massive bust (like crazy huge), round hips and rump, long legs, freckles
Apparel: When out of uniform, she wears a worn white shift, black leather stay, black skirt with a single petticoat, and black boots. When in uniform she also wears a leather breast band (equivalent of a bra) to keep her breasts out of the way, leather gauntlets with metal armoring that are actually thin blades, and a metal throat guard. She keeps her money pouch hidden in her breast band at all times.
Gift: Fire and scribe powers
Weapons: As well as her baton, she has a knife in each boot and strapped to her thighs.
Personality: Clarice is a bit of a dry humorist, not prone to showing dramatic amounts of emotion unless greatly provoked. The most of the time she is fairly neutral, showing casual merriment in the form of smiles and small laughs, but is at her merriest when out with her friends. She will gladly get a laugh at the follies of humanity and will gladly point out traits about someone that she finds to be hilarious. Though she can usually ignore and laugh off any misdeed done unto her, she is very protective of her friends and of her brother and will stand up for them no matter the consequences for herself.
Associates: Ari (her twin brother and partner), Whiskey (fae cat)
History: Clarice was born into the Yippawit tribe in the northern fens along with her twin brother Ari. Although living in isles, her people were far enough inland that the ocean was rarely seen from home and they would navigate through the fens to reach it for fishing and traveling. As twins, the two were seen by the tribe’s shamans as having great things to come in their future. From the reading of the stars at their time of birth, it was determined that they had close ties with the moon, and though this meant they were related closely to Water, powerful Fire stars were also present, mainly when their mother was in labor with Clarice. For this reason they were blessed in a moon temple on a nearby small island and given little talismans of moonstone, Ari’s shaped in a curve like a breaking wave and his sister’s in a patternless design like a wild flame. As a female Clarice would have been trained with the warrior priestesses in arts utilizing energy movement and magic rather than brute physical strength, but the stubborn young gixie insisted on training alongside her brother and became physically very fit because of it. Though she also learned basic tidbits from the women to supplement her abilities, Clarice was always happiest wrestling or fist fighting with the guys. In one such bought as an adolescent she got a fist to the face, knocking out her left canine tooth, which was replaced with a steel replica. She buried the tooth beneath a willow tree growing beside a nearby stream so no one would find it and use it against her in magic. Upon turning sixteen, she was sent out for a year to travel and learn of the world, as all members of her tribe must. She left the isles she had called home from birth along with Ari and found work with the Provost's Guard, training as Puppies and opting to stay after their year was up. During her time in the port town, she found a Yamani cat with seal points and blue eyes whom she named Whiskey (as she found him at a tavern trying to drink hers). He is a familiar to her and often times assists in taking down Rats by gouging their eyes or tripping them. She also became close friends with a group of pirates, but has to be cautious about their friendship for as a Dog she should arrest them on their fouls.
Other: Though she is very beautiful, Clarice is aware of this and uses the fact to her advantage, lulling Rats into a false sense of security. Surprisingly, the only person she has ever been romantically involved with is her current boyfriend, Padriac, a pirate. The fact that he is nearly a foot shorter than her is a source of many laughs.

Name: Ari Wildwire Yippawitt
Gender: M
Age: 21
Race: Irish equivalent
Height: 6'7"
Hair: Black, fairly straight, grown past his shoulders, kept in a messy ponytail with much hair still falling in his face.
Eyes: Cobalt blue with long girly eyelashes
Face: Angular with a neatly trimmed goatee
Body: Very muscular from a life spent working at sea. Long because of his height but not overly lanky.
Apparel: When out of uniform, a loose white shirt over black breeches and boots.
Gift: Wind and water capabilities.
Weapons: Keeps a cutlass on his leather belt and a knife always somewhere in his person.
Personality: Ari is a happy go lucky moron, to put it lightly. He loves his drink almost as much as he loves his ship and his sister and is always eager to have a good time and a few laughs while he's at it. He wants to be friends with everyone he meets, unless they prove themselves to be poor company. The only time he is seen to become serious is if Clarice is threatened in any way and will always take her safety and well being over that of anyone else, even himself.
Associates: Clarice (twin sister and partner in the Guard), Sutton and Padriac (pirate friends)
History: See Clarice's History for early childhood info. Clarice and Ari were always each other's rivals and best friends, learning how to better themselves through sparring with each other. They were (and still are) always attached at the hip, one rarely seen without the other. When they turned sixteen and were sent out into the world, they did so together in the family boat. Most of their times were good, save for a few dark events, the one that stands out in his mind being when in a foreign port a man drugged Clarice's drink so she couldn't move and tried to carry her out of the tavern to more than likely rape her and sell her into slavery if not kill her. When he caught sight of him trying to lug her out into the alley Ari rushed the man, bludgeoning him with his fists until he was dead. Needless to say they never went back to that port again. Through their nautical traipsings the pair met up with the crew of The Twist of Fate, pirates but small-time, good spirited ones, and became fast friends with the captain and crew. Though they are now Dogs and should arrest them on their fouls, they tend to look the other way, and besides Dogs befriending those who are less than lawful is not entirely uncommon.

Name: Hilda Heinrich
Gender: F
Age: 32
Race: German Equivalent
Height: 5'10
Hair: Dirty blonde, curly, usually pulled back in a thick braid to keep from being set on fire.
Eyes: Green
Face: Heart shaped face, high cheek bones, simple nose, full lips, very pretty smile.
Body: GERMAN. Strong shoulders, muscled arms, sturdy hips, shapely buttocks, long and strong legs. Her chest is of a modest size, enough to notice but not enough to write home about. Hilda has womanly curves covering her muscled form but it is still clear to those who look at her that she's just a few inches short of an Amazon.
Apparel: As a Dog she wears a black tunic, black breeches, and black boots and carries a two foot lead-cored baton and leather straps. Off duty, she is in her smithy shop, wearing brown breeches and a white tunic mostly, covered with a brown apron with many stains and burnholes. She has a few dresses, mostly red in color and nothing terribly fancy.
Gift: The ability to charm what she creates
Weapons: Swings a large warhammer that she crafted over many years and charmed so that it would return to her after throwing it.
Personality: Hilda is plucky and passionate. She can be a hardass but its usually for the best and isn't cruel for kicks. As a boss she is patient and yet stern, expecting the best from her apprentice. She can be warm and loving and especially fun to be around since she doesn't like drama or dealing with other's personal issues. However, she is a woman and sometimes she is moody. Most often she is alert and honest in her evaluations of people, situations, and will not hesitate to tell you if she disapproves of your behavior. At the heart though, she is a passionate person, which makes her life exciting and gives her an optimistic outlook.
Associates: Jade, apprentice
Oleg, younger brother
History: Comes from a long line of blacksmiths, tracing back several generations. It was always the males that learned the craft though, until Hilda's aunt Yasmine began to learn it and teach it to the ladies. Then, it became a family enterprise which earned them lots of money and reknown in their parts of the world. She apprenticed under her father until she was 30, learning everything he had to teach, considering he too could charm his creations and her aunt could not. Hilda, being too adventurous to stay put, decided to trek elsewhere and settled in the city of Provost. She moved with her younger brother, Oleg and the two have a booming business for the most part.
Other: Likes to sing and dance
