I only let one person call me -Chan and that's a friend of mine who does that as a joke and because she knows I laugh when she calls me it.

It's also better to know when it is relevant to use it. It can be an insult.

My parents-in-law keep calling me that, for reason I'm "like a child" compared to them. I don't mind, much.

I absolutely hate it when people say:
"Konichiwa, I am *Sarah-chan desu!!" *sarah is a placeholder*
because 1.
1. if you said that to someone in japan, first of all it would be WRONG. you are not supposed to call yourself -chan, -san, -kun, sama ect... Because it makes you look childish and stupid. as well as its wrong grammar.
Its like saying
"Hi, I'm the Sarah girl."
it just sounds weird and odd.
2. DESU DOESN'T GO AT THE END OF EVERYTHING.

People who are non japs but go around acting like them is just plain painful to the local culture. I am disappointed at how a culture now go dying and unapproved because of obsession with the Japanese culture.
